1. The church’s one foundation\u00a0is Jesus Christ her Lord;\u00a0she is his new creation\u00a0by water and the Word.\u00a0From heaven he came and sought her\u00a0to be his holy bride;\u00a0with his own blood he bought her,\u00a0and for her life he died.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Elect from every nation,\u00a0yet one o’er all the earth;\u00a0her charter of salvation,\u00a0one Lord, one faith, one birth;\u00a0one holy name she blesses,\u00a0partakes one holy food,\u00a0and to one hope she presses,\u00a0with every grace endued.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3. Though with a scornful wonder\u00a0we see her sore oppressed,\u00a0by schisms rent asunder,\u00a0by heresies distressed,\u00a0yet saints their watch are keeping;\u00a0their cry goes up, “How long?”\u00a0And soon the night of weeping\u00a0shall be the morn of song.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4. Mid toil and tribulation,\u00a0and tumult of her war,\u00a0she waits the consummation\u00a0of peace forevermore;\u00a0till, with the vision glorious,\u00a0
her longing eyes are blest,\u00a0and the great church victorious\u00a0shall be the church at rest.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5. Yet she on earth hath union\u00a0with God the Three in One,\u00a0and mystic sweet communion\u00a0with those whose rest is won.\u00a0O happy ones and holy!\u00a0Lord, give us grace that we\u00a0like them, the meek and lowly,\u00a0on high may dwell with thee.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
